Accessibility

If any part of this site keeps you from getting what you came for, tell me and I will fix it. That is the whole policy. The rest is detail.

and I mean tell me, not a form

What we aim for

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. In plain terms that means text you can read at the size you need it, color contrast that holds up in bright light, everything reachable with a keyboard alone, and nothing that moves if you have asked your device to stop things moving.

What that looks like in practice

  • Body text clears a contrast ratio of 4.5 to 1 against its background, and large text clears 3 to 1.
  • Every link, button and form field can be reached and used with the keyboard, and shows a visible outline when it has focus.
  • A skip link at the top of every page jumps straight to the content.
  • Photographs carry alt text. Drawn marks, rules and ticks are marked as decoration so a screen reader passes over them.
  • If your device asks for reduced motion, nothing on the site animates. The handwriting is already written and the figures already show their number.
  • With JavaScript switched off, every page still reads and every form still says how to reach a person.

Where it falls short

This is a demonstration site, so some parts are not finished and I would rather say so than leave you to find out. The assistant panel is not switched on yet. The booking flow uses sample availability. Anywhere a price or a figure appears it is labelled as a sample, because inventing one would be worse than having none.

Telling me about a problem

Call me at 386-344-7113 or write to Rachel@devotedbooksandtax.com. Tell me what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what got in the way. If you use assistive software it helps to know which, but it is not required and I will not make you find out.

I answer these myself, and I would rather hear about a problem than have you go somewhere else.
