I live here. I am not a firm in another state with a Lake City landing page and a phone number that goes to a call center.
I grew up out in the country not far from this desk, feeding animals before it got light, so a six o'clock start has never felt early to me.

The county seat of Columbia County, and the one place in Florida where I-75 and I-10 cross. That crossing is half the economy: trucking and freight, the shops and kitchens around Lake DeSoto downtown, contractors, tree crews, landscapers, salons, everybody who keeps a town of twelve thousand running.
Those are my people. I know what your season looks like, because I watch it go by outside my window.
The shape of the year here
Business here runs on the road, the water and the weather, and rarely on all three at once.
The Suwannee is twenty minutes west and the Ichetucknee runs down toward Fort White, so from spring break to Labor Day a lot of local money arrives with people who came for the water. February brings the crowd out to Olustee and fills the rooms and the kitchens for a weekend. Then it goes quiet again.
That matters to your books. A business with a big summer and a thin January needs its estimated payments set against the real shape of the year, not four equal guesses.
It needs to know in August what it will owe, while the money is still in the account. I have watched people get hurt by this who did nothing wrong except pay evenly.
Construction and trades have the opposite problem. The work comes in bursts, the deposits come before the costs, and a good month on paper can be a bad month in the bank. Clean books tell you the difference. A shoebox does not.

Who I work with around here
Lake City first, because it is home. Fort White and Wellborn are both a short run out of town and I have clients in each. Live Oak is twenty minutes west on 90, Branford sits down on the river past it, and Lake Butler and Jasper are the same kind of drive the other two directions.
South of here, High Springs and Alachua are a straight shot down 441, and I still see people in both. Gainesville is forty five minutes and I make that drive when it makes sense to sit in a room together. You do not have to drive to Gainesville to get work done to a Gainesville standard.

In person or not, your choice
If you are local, you can hand me a folder. Some people want that and I understand it completely. There is something about physically giving somebody the pile that makes it stop being your problem.
If you would rather not drive, the portal works the same for a client in Wellborn as for one in Arizona. Most local clients end up half and half: the portal all year, and a real conversation in person once, usually before tax season.
