Everything your books need, from one pair of hands

Five things. That is the whole list. I do them all myself, which means the person who reconciles your accounts in March is the person who files your return in April, and she already knows what is in there.

No job is too big or too small. I have said that since the beginning and I have never had to take it back.

most people call me about one of these and end up needing two

Full charge bookkeeping

Every month I take your bank and card activity, categorize it, reconcile it, and hand you back a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet you can actually read. Full charge means I am not just entering transactions. I am running the whole set of books, start to finish, and I will tell you when something in them looks wrong.

You get your numbers by a set day each month. Not whenever. A set day.

Who it is for

Small businesses and contractors who are making money and have stopped being able to tell exactly how much. If you are running your business out of one checking account and a shoebox, this is the fix.

the monthly note is the part clients say they did not know they wanted

What is included

  • Bank and credit card reconciliation, every account, every month
  • Transactions categorized against a chart of accounts that fits your business, not a generic one
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable kept current
  • A profit and loss statement and a balance sheet each month
  • A short plain English note from me about anything that changed or looks off
  • Your books kept ready so tax season is a review, not a rebuild
  • What it costs

    From $325 a month

Set after I see the volume of transactions and the number of accounts.

    Sample pricing for demonstration.

Tell me how many accounts you have and I will tell you what it takes.

Set up and clean up

Two jobs that look different and are really the same job: getting your books to a place we can both trust.

Set up is for a new business, or one that has never had books. I build your chart of accounts, connect your bank feeds, get QuickBooks Online opened properly, and hand you something that will still make sense three years from now.

Clean up is for books that exist and have drifted. Uncategorized transactions, duplicate entries, a bank account that has not matched in eleven months, a prior bookkeeper who left mid year. I go back as far as you need me to and get every month to balance.

I have seen worse than yours. I say that to almost everybody and it is almost always true.

Who it is for

Anyone who has said out loud "I need to deal with my books" and then not dealt with them. Also anyone whose last bookkeeper stopped answering.

this is the part people put off

What is included

  • A first look at what is actually there, before you commit to anything
  • A chart of accounts built for your business and your future filings
  • QuickBooks Online opened, connected, and set up so it stays clean
  • Every prior month reconciled back to the date we agree on
  • Duplicates removed, uncategorized entries resolved, opening balances corrected
  • A written summary of what was wrong and what I changed, so you are not taking my word for it
  • What it costs

From $85 an hour, or a flat quote

Once I have seen the file. I give you the flat number before I start, not after.

    Sample pricing for demonstration.

Send me the last twelve months and I will tell you honestly how big this is.

Payroll

Payroll is the one where being a little bit late costs real money. Penalties on late deposits compound quietly, and most owners do not find out until a notice arrives.

I run your payroll on schedule, handle the withholding, and file the payroll tax returns that go with it. When the rules change for your state, you hear it from me before it matters.

Who it is for

Businesses with one employee or thirty. If you have been running payroll out of a spreadsheet and hoping, stop.

the penalties are what get people, not the payroll

What is included

  • Payroll run on your schedule, weekly, every two weeks, or twice a month
  • Withholding calculated and deposits made on time
  • Quarterly payroll tax returns prepared and filed
  • Year end forms prepared for your people
  • New hires added and departures handled without a scramble
  • Payroll tied into your books, so your labor cost is right in the profit and loss every month
  • What it costs

From $90 a month plus $9 per person per run Sample pricing for demonstration.

Tax preparation for individuals

Your personal return, prepared properly and filed on time. I go through what you bring me, ask about the things you did not think to mention, and file when it is right rather than when it is fast.

If your situation has something unusual in it, I will say so out loud before we get to the end, not after.

Who it is for

Individuals and families, including the ones with a side business, a rental, or a year that got complicated.

bring the letters you did not open, especially those

What is included

  • A conversation about your year before anything is entered
  • Your federal return prepared and filed electronically
  • Every document you sent, checked off against what the return needs
  • A clear explanation of the result, in words, before you sign anything
  • A copy of everything, organized, for your records
  • A note about what to do differently next year, if there is one
  • What it costs

From $245 for a straightforward return

More when there is a business or a rental in it. You get the number before I start.

Quarterly and yearly business filings

The filings that keep your business current: quarterly estimates, sales tax where it applies, and the annual return for your entity.

The advantage of my doing this after I have kept your books all year is that nothing is a surprise in April. We already know what the year looked like, because I told you every month.

Who it is for

Sole proprietors, single member businesses, partnerships, and small corporations who want the year filed by somebody who watched the year happen.

if you are paying estimates by guessing, we can fix that

What is included

  • Quarterly estimated payments calculated and filed on schedule
  • Sales tax returns where your business collects it
  • The annual return for your entity, prepared from your own books
  • Owner compensation and distributions handled consistently all year
  • A calendar of your deadlines, so nothing arrives as news
  • One conversation each year about what the next one should look like
  • What it costs

From $450 for an annual business return, plus $135 per quarter for estimates

Priced once I see the entity and the volume.

    Sample pricing for demonstration.

Bring your entity type and last year's filing.

Not sure which one you need

Most people are not. Tell me what is happening and I will tell you which of these five it is, or that it is none of them and you need somebody else. Either way the call is free and it takes twenty minutes.
